Plan:

  • make a bowl using a slump mold

  • underglaze it blue, and sgrafifto some sort of ocean design

Relief carving

I am very happy about how it turned out, I think the colors are perefectly vibrant, and the fish match the wave esk non-patern patern on the outside of the bowl. there is nothing I would do differntly

Plan:

  • Make a slab

  • form and place the flowers

  • scraffito the line designs and the sun

  • fire it

  • use a fun crystal glaze

I think it looks decently good, but I do not love the glaze combo I did, I do not think that they go the best together.

Coil building

Plan:

  • make a vase

  • start with a solid circle bottom

  • make coils and alternate patterns on the way up

  • fill in the gaps of the coils so it can be water-tight

I like the way it all turned out, I think I should have found a better way to seal all of the gaps, or rolled the slab I used to fill the gaps thinner, because it made the walls quite thick, and overall, the vase heavier than I would have wished.

Slab with darts

Plan:

  • make a small cup

  • make a slab

  • Cut out triangles in the right spots of the slab and form the cut edges together to make a cup shape

  • underglaze flowers on it

I was absent the day we learned what a slab with darts was, and a sub showed me pictures on how to make this, so assuming this was the right thing, I think it turned out moderately well. The sides are fairly uneven, and it sat outside in the sun for too long, developing a crack in the side. However, I really like the design I did on it.

Air Plant Holders

I saw airplant holders at a makers market I went to, and knew I could easily make them. I rolled out a thin slab, then cut out the desired shape for the base and the part that would make up the pocket. I then imprinted them with the pattern I wanted, and underglazed one, then waited to use a crystal glaze on the other one.

In-N-Out Cup

For this cup, I rolled out a slab and formed it around one of the Starbucks bottles, then attached a bottom circle to it. After this, it was simply a matter of underglazing it to look like a classic In-N-Out cup!
